Among the highest birds in Wales.
As good as it gets.
Reserved for those who can handle it.
Palé Hall Estate expands into new ground - unlocking some of the most challenging and naturally driven terrain the Berwyn Mountains have to offer.
At Betws Gwerfil Goch, within the wild folds of the Alwen Valley, the landscape is not simply a setting - it is the foundation of the sport.
Steep, unforgiving banks drop into the winding line of the River Alwen. Deciduous oak woods cling to the hillsides. Wind moves unpredictably through the valley, shaping every drive before a bird has even lifted.
This is ground built for shooting.
Nothing here is easy. Birds are forced high by the terrain, carried by the elements, and revealed only at the last moment. What you see is dictated by the land and often, by the time you see it, it is already upon you.
A DAY IN THE FIELD
The day begins at the Palé Hall shoot lodge.
Bacon sandwiches and good coffee - the right start for the day ahead.
From there, the line drives in convoy through the valleys, climbing steadily before arriving at the first drive. A coliseum. A natural amphitheatre carved into the land, with sweeping views across the valley. Deciduous oak woods frame the skyline, while below, the stillness is broken only by the sound of the River cutting its way through the valley floor.
It is calm. Controlled. Expectant.
Hearts beating. Guns ready. The line is set - primed for what is to come.
Mid-morning, the guns are rested and elevenses arrive on the field. Curated by chef partner Luke Selby, using the best produce the valley has to offer - classics, done properly, with a modern edge. Eat well. You'll need it.

FROM FIELD TO KITCHEN
Everything shot on the estate has a purpose.
At Palé Hall, all game taken in the field is brought back into the kitchens and treated with the same respect as any of the finest ingredients we source. This is a complete, considered approach - where the day’s sport carries through to the table.
Nothing is rushed. Nothing is wasted.
From refined dishes served in the dining room to more relaxed, generous plates across the estate, the game reflects the landscape it comes from - wild, natural, and deeply rooted in place.
This is true field-to-fork cooking.
A connection between land and kitchen that defines everything we do.
