On Saturday 4th April 2026, Palé Hall opened its doors to something a little different. Presence & Matter brought five exceptional artists into conversation with the estate, its rooms, its corridors, its gardens and the landscape beyond, creating an exhibition that felt as much a part of the house as the house itself.

Across painting, printmaking and sculpture, five distinct voices shaped an evening worth remembering. Richard Monks brought layered abstract landscapes that hold memory and place in equal measure. Gilly Thomas offered compositions that invite interpretation rather than dictate it. Oleksandra Davydenko's bold, expressive works spoke of resilience and identity with quiet force. Gareth Nash gave form to animal and human narratives through emotive ceramic sculpture. And the linocuts of Peter Paul Piech carried their humanist themes with the kind of conviction that only deepens with time.

Guests moved freely through the gallery and grounds, Champagne in hand, encountering each work in its own space and at their own pace. Works were available to acquire directly from the artists, making it a rare opportunity to bring a piece of the evening home.

Presence & Matter reflects something Palé Hall feels strongly about. That art belongs in places like this, where history, architecture and landscape give it room to breathe and where the right setting can make even a familiar work feel entirely new.
