North Wales in Summer: Why Palé Hall Is the Place to Base Yourself This School Holiday
Mountains, lakes, coast and a Michelin-pedigreed kitchen to come back to - the Dee Valley in summer is worth the journey, and summer dates fill quickly.
The roads of North Wales are some of the finest in Britain, and the right group of people, in the right cars, deserved to experience them properly.
You know Palé Hall for its peace, its food, and the feeling you get when you turn off the main road and the estate opens up in front of you. What you might not know is what we have been quietly building alongside it.
This autumn, we are opening the doors to the Wonder of Wales Drivers Club.
What is the Wonder of Wales Drivers Club?
Founded by Palé Hall owners Anthony and Donna Cooper-Barney, the Wonder of Wales Drivers Club is an exclusive touring club for classic car enthusiasts, strictly limited to 20 pre-1995 cars per event. It was built around a simple conviction - that the roads of North Wales are some of the finest in Britain, and that the right group of people, in the right cars, deserved to experience them properly. Not as a rally. Not as a convoy. As a considered journey through a landscape that rewards that kind of attention.
Every route is designed by Guy Woodcock, former Competition Director of HERO-ERA, with over 40 years of international motorsport experience and 700 events to his name, including three editions of the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge. He knows this corner of Wales intimately, and it shows in every mile of the route.
Each evening returns to Palé Hall, where Chef Partner Luke Selby and his team take over - menus built around Welsh produce, shaped around the rhythm of the day.
The September Tour 2026: 27th September to 1st October
The tour opens on Sunday evening with a Welcome Reception and dinner at Palé Hall. From there, four days unfold across some of the most rewarding driving terrain in the country.
Monday heads south through the open landscapes of Mid Wales - Gregynog Hall, the fringes of Snowdonia, and an evening at The Bryntirion Inn. Tuesday pushes northwest to the Isle of Anglesey, where an afternoon at Trac Môn is followed by an overnight stay at Chateau Rhianfa on the Menai Strait. Wednesday closes the loop along the Llyn Peninsula - mountain passes, coastal roads, and a return to Palé Hall for the Gala Dinner.
Four days, four nights, all meals and coffee stops included, with full route planning, road books and track time at Trac Môn. From £4,250 per car. Places are strictly limited.
